I Believe in the Resurrection

There is only one person in all human history who said I have authority to lay down my life and to take it up again.*

There is only one person in all human history who said I am the good shepherd and the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.*

And there is only one person in all human history who promised life after death to all who believe in him.

He said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”*

Yet we see death all around us; we feel the pain of separation; we see tears; and sicknesses taking its final toll on human bodies; don’t we? But then shouldn’t all that prompt us to ask: “Is this all to human life? Is death the absolute end or is there a beginning of life, after death?”

Jesus answered those questions in a unique way. His sacrificial death on the cross was no accident. He tasted death* for everyone by shedding his innocent blood for the sins of all.

If that was the end of the story there would have been no hope for us. But death could not hold the Author of life.* He rose from the dead the third day. He lives for ever.

Therefore we hope with certainty:
That one day in our bodies and with our own eyes we will see God face to face.*
That he will wipe away every tear from our eyes.
That there will no more death or mourning or crying or pain.*

My dear friend, as you face death some day know that you have to go alone. But to those who believe in him, those who have found forgiveness in him; he will walk you through death’s dark tunnel into inexpressible joy, never-ending life, and no more night!*
