I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none (Ezekiel 22:30 NIV).
God looks for a man. But He finds none. God looks for a man who will yield to Him. Just one person, who will plead on behalf of the land and its people that God may have mercy on His people.
But often God finds none. Then God is compelled to pour out His wrath on the people and consume them in His fiery anger.
But if God had found a man who wholeheartedly pleaded for God’s mercy to be shown to His people, God would have spared the land and its people from His fury. This is amazing because God is not asking for multitudes, neither is He asking for a small group.
He is simply asking for one man to take the burden upon His shoulders–to stand in the gap and pray! His is the work of rebuilding the ruins. And when he finds a gap that cannot be closed; his is the work of standing there to intercede!
“But, what can one man do?” you may ask. One man truly in earnest pleading for God’s mercy can change the course of history. One man who would dare to stand before God and ask for His forgiving mercy for His people is enough to shape the destiny of God’s people.
God is not asking for a man who would do exploits. God is not asking for a great and handsome preacher, nor is He asking for some great organizer of events.
God is seeking for one; who hidden from the eyes of others can weep and plead for God’s mercy. God is seeking one man to whose plea for mercy He can listen to. Can you be that one man?
