Trust in God When Afraid

When I am afraid, I will trust in you (Psalm 56:3 NIV).

Not one man on earth can claim that he has never been afraid in his life. Whether the reason for fear is reasonable or not, man is full of fear during many moments in his lifetime.

David describes here the simple and most effective counter action to this fear: Trust in God!

You cannot predict when you are going to be afraid next. Sometimes some surprise incidents take place in our life; quite suddenly and without warning. Sometimes these incidents shock us and make us tremble with fear. So, fear is a possibility that we may encounter any time in life.

David says that whatever time or stage of life fear comes in, he has one and the same solution to all of them: Trust in God. He knows that God is bigger than his fear. He understands that focussing on God will destroy the fear within him and give him courage to move on.

The Christian life is a realistic one. It does not run away from life’s realities. But it faces them honestly. Fear is something that can come into our lives. It can affect the way we think and even change the way we behave.

But there is no need for us to be dominated by fear because we have God with us. And when we put our trust in Him, fears loose their power to hold us in bondage.

One type of fear that David has in mind here specifically is the fear of other men. Many times men hunt others down; often physically, and sometimes emotionally.

But David sees trust in God as an effective medicine to cure this ill. It works even for those worse affected by fear. This trust is something that no man or fear can destroy!
