Growth

A child grows. So also animals and plants grow. The principle of growth is everywhere. It has been designed by God.

Man is often concerned only with physical and mental growth. But the Bible talks about spiritual growth. In fact, in God’s eyes, it has got most important value. Therefore seek to grow in the wisdom of God which is found in Christ.

And as you grow thus and mature in the things of God, learn to leave childish ways behind you. Then from drinking milk you will mature to eating solid food.

But a stage comes in the life of the body when growth slows down. The principle of decay and death overtakes growth. The end is now in view. The wise man thinks on why this decay happens. He understands that sin has corrupted life and cut short its growth. And He cries out to God.

The Bible also talks about kingdom-growth where the kingdom of heaven is compared to a mustard seed which even though small, when planted grows and becomes a tree where the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.

Perhaps the best model of growth given in the Bible is recorded in these words of Luke: “And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him . . . And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
