Rejoice Greatly, Shout, See, Your King Comes to You

Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey (Zechariah 9:9 NIV).

Rejoice! Your King is coming to you. Raise banners of welcome. Prepare your heart and mind to receive Him. Open the doors of your heart wide. Let Him ride in. He comes is peace.

Prepare a throne in your heart. He shall reign there. Rejoice! What greater blessing do you need than to have your King come to you!

Why is the coming of the King such a joyful event? Three things come to mind:

One, He is coming with salvation. No one else can provide that for you.

Second, He is coming to live in your midst. Isn’t it a great joy to have your beloved King, who is righteous and gentle, living with you?

Thirdly, it is by such an appearing; riding on a donkey that He reveals His identity as King. He leaves no room for doubt as to His identity after this event. Therefore His coming is a joyful event.

Now the big question: Who is this King? He is none else than Jesus.

Even five hundred years before His birth, His triumphal entry to Jerusalem was specifically foretold by the prophet. And His disciples and the people of the city fulfilled all this without realizing its true meaning.

But here is your chance. Welcome the King with full knowledge of who He is! The great God, God Almighty, coming to you. He is gentle.

Therefore shout. Let your Hosanna’s be heard. May you cry out, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” Yes, He will come once again to Jerusalem.

This time He will ride a white horse to war, and will be dressed in a robe dipped in blood, to conquer and rule for ever and ever on His throne in Jerusalem. Therefore shout!
