Let Him Who Walks in the Dark, Trust, Rely

Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God (Isaiah 50:10 NIV).

Obedience can lead through darkness. Such an experience should not come as a surprise. Instead this knowledge should help you to be prepared for it.

The darkness can come in long stretches or short spells. It can totally stop you from moving or slow down your pace much. Whatever happens, the important thing to note is that the path of trust and obedience to God can lead through darkness at times.

But the focus here is of walking in the dark! Hallelujah! God’s servants are called to move forward even when it is dark. The light of God can guide even in darkness. But it should be noted that this light may not be visible at times.

Though it might be dark on the outside, God’s light like an autopilot still guides on the inside. So the journey of faith continues even when it is a walk in the dark.

Then the verse talks about the state of having no light. This is a state when you have no knowledge whatsoever of why something is happening. It could be thought about like this:

You knew that a path was right. You knew that God had called you to walk in it. When you started walking you had high hopes. You knew exactly why you chose to walk that path. You knew God was in your decision. Well, this was the time when your light was burning bright!

Then, along the way came difficulties, criticism, rejection, loss of confidence and ultimately a loss of faith in your own ability accompanied by a total lack of conviction why you were walking that path. During this process the burning light was flickering to its end. Darkness!

But the walk is not over. God is commanding you today, you who fear the Lord and obey Him, to trust in the name of the Lord and rely on Him. That means that God wants you to continue to walk forward just by relying on Him alone.

What does that mean? It means that God wants you to know that He is still there with you and guiding you. He knows the path and He will walk you through the dark stretches. Dear friend, God’s message to you today is: Continue to walk in the dark!
