The Bible tells us of two important things regarding forgiveness of sins. One, man is a sinner and needs forgiveness. Two, God alone can forgive man the sins he has committed. Therefore, “Praise the Lord, O my soul, . . . who forgives all your sins.”
There is a cleansing experience in forgiveness. Through Prophet Isaiah God told His people that even if there sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. John wrote that if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins. Not only that He will purify us from all unrighteousness. This purification is effected through the blood of Jesus.
There is a forgetting experience in forgiveness. Paul wrote that love keeps no record of wrongs. The Psalmist asked: “If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared.” So, God when He delights in forgiving a person also forgets his sin.
Therefore Paul wrote to the Romans saying that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. This truth was earlier expressed by Prophet Micah who exclaimed, “Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression . . . You will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.”
Remember, God through Prophet Isaiah said: “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” When God forgives, He no more holds your sins against you!
There is a clean new beginning made possible by God’s forgiveness. Through Prophet Isaiah God called out to His people saying: “I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.”
Dear friend, this was the truth you longed to hear for so many years. God is marking this moment in your life as the turning point. He is telling you that the past is dealt with by His forgiveness. Now get up and walk forward because God has granted you a clean new beginning in life.
