Better a Patient Man Than

Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city (Proverbs 16:32 NIV).

Losing temper is not so uncommon today.

Caught in a traffic jam and moving at snail’s pace, walking into your office or workplace to find yesterday’s work pending, or even naughty children at home can all cause anger to flare in a flash. In today’s fast-paced world, patience is hard to find.

But the Bible celebrates patience. God is patient. He had been patient with His erring children in the past. He still is patient with you today. And God loves to see patience in His children too.

The wisdom in having patience is immense. It allows you to have control over circumstances. On the other hand when you lose your temper, you allow circumstances and others to control you. It shows that you are really weak.

More than any other lesson, God wants you to learn that controlling your temper is important in His eyes. Many times it is lack of trust in God and in His ability to care for you that causes you to lose your temper.

When you look at it that way, you will know that losing your temper is not the problem. But it is only a manifestation of unrest and turmoil deep in your heart.

It is when anxiety is much within you that it is most likely for you to lose your temper. So learn to trust God.

It is here that patience plays a big role. Trusting God often involves patient waiting. And trusting God involves putting up with people with tough temperaments.

Shouting at them is not the right way. That only proves how weak you are. So, be patient and with much dependence on God control your temper.
