Forgiveness is the Key to a Healed Mind

Forgiving someone is one of the hardest things to do. Preaching about it is very easy though. Yet when we try to forgive someone who has wronged us badly we feel an intense battle in our heart. So it is clear that we need God’s grace to forgive others.

One of the things that prevent us from forgiving someone is the hate that we carry within us towards that person. Now hate destroys not the person against whom it is directed; but destroys the person carrying it.

It bites into our entire being. It is ugly and venomous. It is poisonous.

And when it is carried within our heart we are slowly infected with it. It gnaws its way through until we cannot even think clearly. So getting rid of hatred is the key to forgiving others.

“But is that actually possible?” That question is genuine. The answer is “Not possible!” Yet there is a possibility. We need to stand at the foot of the Cross of Calvary and see Him bleeding there for you and me. “Why did He do that?”

To forgive you and me of all the sins we have ever committed. And as His children who have enjoyed His forgiveness, He expects us to follow His example. Let us honestly try to forgive others. That is the key to finding peace of mind.

One last question: “Are most of your prayers unanswered?” Then seek no further. The cause could be unforgiveness: “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins” (Mark 11:24 NIV).

“But, But, But . . . ” Your concern now is about the painful memories. You are only asked to forgive. It is God’s business to take the sting out of the painful memories: “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you (Isaiah 26: 3 NIV).

Therefore keep trusting God and waver not. He will unhook you from your past and give you peace!
