When you are invited to any home, usually the host gives you a meal. On special occasions the host gives you a feast. Now Jesus has extended you His invitation. When you accept this invitation, you are accepting Him into your life. Then He invites you home!
Since God rejoices in your salvation and since there is rejoicing in heaven that you are now God’s child, Jesus is going to give you a feast. His heart is full of love for you and He wants to express His love through this feast.
You can now sing,
“He has taken me to the banquet hall, and his banner over me is love.”
You may wonder how you are going to take part in this feast. For that you need to understand something about one of the attributes of Jesus Christ. He is the Word of God. This Word was present even before the creation of this world. It is this Word of God that took the form of flesh and was born in the manger in Bethlehem around two millenniums ago.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:1-2,14a NIV).
Now when God is giving you a feast, He is giving you the Word of God. It is the Bible. Like we eat our daily food for physical growth, we need to feast on God’s Word for our spiritual growth. By spiritual growth is meant the growing knowledge of God in our daily life.
The Bible was written by writers who were inspired by the Holy Spirit. So every word in the Bible has been God-breathed. It has life in it. It therefore transforms lives and strengthens those who feed on it.
God used around 40 different authors over a period of 1600 years to complete the Bible of 66 Books in its present form. The writers included Leaders, Kings, Prophets, Judges, Fishermen, a Tax Collector and even a Physician. But the Bible speaks the mind of God because it was the Holy Spirit who inspired the writing. Again, it was through the Holy Spirit that the child Jesus was conceived in the virgin Mary’s womb, when the Word of God became flesh!
When Jesus was grown up and was doing His public ministry among people, He claimed that He was the bread of life and that He is the bread that came down from heaven. So we have to feast on Jesus to get strength for our daily living. It means that we have to feast on the Word of God till we reach heaven to have an actual feast with Jesus Christ. Let us look forward to it. More than that let us begin feasting on the Word–Jesus Christ!
