Restore to God the Honor Due His Name
The great sin of modern Christianity is not making idols. But it is the great sin of reducing God’s honor to the dust. It is true that grace came through Jesus Christ. But that is not a license to preach blessings without preaching man’s responsibility to live in obedience to God and His commandments.
The modern–day followers of Jesus easily forget the fact that Jesus was humble. In His humility he became a servant of men; not even considering holding on to equality with God in heaven. Considering that fact alone makes the pride and the lavish lifestyle that the modern-day preachers of the gospel recommend a big question mark hanging over the manger of Bethlehem!
Even John the Baptist who was certified by Jesus as there is none greater than him among those born of women desired that Jesus be honored. He said that Jesus must become greater and he must become less. Is that what we see today? Jesus is sadly in the shadows, behind the curtains, a name to be marketed; rather than in the light, or on the front stage or a Name at which every knee should bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.
When God is reduced to something sweet by evangelists to suit the mood of the listeners, they forget the fact that our God is majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders. He is a jealous God and a consuming fire. He is El-Shaddai, God Almighty, who brought His children out of Egypt with an outstretched arm and mighty acts of judgment.
The Holy Spirit today is recognized as a Giver of gifts. The gifts are craved for; the Giver is neglected. He is exalted by people as a Counselor and Comforter. But rarely do they acknowledge the Holy Spirit who was hovering over the waters during Creation. If there is one word that is associated with the Spirit of God in the Bible, it is “power.” Though He descended on Jesus like a dove and the Bible asks us not to grieve Him, the Holy Spirit of God is full of power! Respect Him.
And the Bible unveils before us the great cry of the multitudes in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea and all that is in them. What do they cry out in song?
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” (Revelation 5:13b). Amen. So be it.
Dear Reader, let not you misuse the name of God for He will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. But decide in your heart to restore to God the honor due His awesome and glorious Name!
