The Lord Has Kept the Promise He Made

The Lord has kept the promise he made (2 Chronicles 6:10 NIV).

This is characteristic of our Lord. If He has made a promise to you, be sure that it will be fulfilled. He never forgets the promise He makes! Solomon exclaims here the truth that God had indeed kept His promise.

To a Christian there is a greater promise to this truth: “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ” (Ref. 2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV).

Now Solomon in his prayer that immediately followed again emphasized the fact that God had kept his promise to his father David. This tells us a truth about how God keeps promises. The promises of God have been given in the past. Yet He fulfills them in our present.

So get familiar with God’s promises today. For how will you expect them to be fulfilled if you don’t know what God has promised? That is why you need to read the Bible prayerfully. For it is through His Word that God reveals to you His promises.

Again, Solomon went one step further. He understood that if God kept one promise that means He will keep all His other promises. So He prays to God to keep the other promises made to his father David as well.

For the Bible elsewhere points out that God does not lie. In fact, it is impossible for God to lie! He will surely keep His promises.

So if you have known God keeping one promise that He made to you, you can boldly pray to Him to fulfill other promises to you as well.

You can be sure that God will do His part. But as Solomon’s prayer clearly shows man has to do his part for God to keep promises for the future. See, God does not promise blessings without asking for obedience from man’s part.

Solomon remembers in his prayer that along with the promises God had put a condition that the promise will come true only if David’s sons obeyed God.

So remember that God will surely keep His promises to you. But make sure that you obey Him. Only then will His promises become a reality in your life!
