The Lord Will Provide

The Lord Will Provide (Genesis 22:14 NIV).

This ultimately refers to God’s providing of Jesus, the Lamb of God, for us. But it can be applied to all life situations provided you have accepted God’s provision of the Lamb.

The context of this verse is the testing of Abraham. God asked him to sacrifice Isaac. He proceeded to obey immediately. He asked no questions. He did not wait for further explanations.

That teaches an important lesson. When God commands, obey. And obey immediately even though it may not make sense especially when God asks from you what is dearest to you.

Having said that, it is good to ask, what gave Abraham the courage to obey this command from God. The answer is that he trusted in the God who provides.

He knew that Isaac was God’s provision in his life. And he might have reasoned that if God was taking him away, He could also restore him somehow.

The way Abraham talked to his servants reflects this conviction. He said to them: “We [Himself and Isaac] will worship and and then we will come back to you.” Those words reflect his faith that God would give Isaac back to him.

It is interesting to note that Abraham was already convinced about God who provides. In fact, he did not learn it after his obedience.

But he was willing to obey because he knew that the Lord will provide even in that seemingly hopeless and impossible situation; however improbable the chance of a miracle seemed!

It is also interesting to note that God waited till the last and very last moment before intervening. He waited till Abraham took the knife.

Possibly, if you want to know God’s provision in your life, go ahead with preparations. Move ahead in obedience to God’s command. His provision will become visible at just the right time. Take heart, the Lord will definitely provide!
