You Have Too Many Men

The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her … (Judges 7:2 NIV).

The world has great confidence in numbers. So they have coined terms like “vast majority,” “overwhelming majority,” and “thumping majority.” The world takes great pride in the strength of numbers.

But in the kingdom of God, numbers can be a hindrance to God’s working. Because when there is a greater number, man tends to attribute their success to their own strength rather than acknowledge God’s hand in their victory.

The first thing to be noted is that boasting is to be avoided. God does not like it at all. It is sad that in the Christian world boasting is not entirely absent. How it grieves the heart of the Lord!

For victories are given by Him. But many times people take the credit for it. And God is forgotten. Sometimes the boasting becomes so arrogant as to boast against God.

But it is good to note that it is not our righteousness or goodness or strength or plans that give us victory. But it is God who gives it to us. Acknowledge Him and avoid boasting.

The second important thing is take along with you a limited number of those whom God approves of. He has His own methods of showing to you those who have His approval.

Those chosen thus are to be given all the resources needed that otherwise would have been distributed among all lined up with you. Now, under God’s guidance these resources come into the hands of the chosen few.

They are God’s chosen team given to you. This team shall bring victory!
