Lift Up Your Eyes from Where You Are

Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north, south, east and west. All the land you see I will give to you and your offspring forever (Genesis 13:14b, 15 NIV).

Lot, Abram’s nephew and traveling companion, had just parted company. He had chosen a well watered land. And Abram was now standing alone. What would have been his emotions and thoughts, we can only try to guess.

Possibly he might have been wondering what the next step was. But the God who initially called him and asked him to move out was watching.

And God said: “Lift up your eyes from where you are.” Moving ahead in life is as simple as that. You have to lift up your eyes from the situation you are in right now.

Possibly your vision must have been clouded by separation or loss. Possibly you might have lost your vision for your future. Possibly you might have forgotten that it was God who asked you to move in the first place. Now it is time to lift up your eyes.

And then look. Whatever you see is what you get. Get yourselves some powerful vision. The power to see what God has planned ahead for you is of absolute importance in Christian living. For if God has to give those things to you in the future, you need to have the ability to see the “land” today.

Don’t try to move ahead without this sight. That is why God asked Abram to lift up his eyes and look from “where he was” standing then. The command to move shall come once you are able to see what God has planned for you.

You needn’t worry how and when you are going to have this kind of vision. It is God who determines when to ask you to lift up your eyes and look. Possibly a parting will make you give God full attention. Then He may speak.
