A Day of Good News

Then they said to each other, “We are not doing right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will overtake us. Let’s go at once and report this to the royal palace” (2 Kings 7:9 NIV).

Four lepers from the Israelite camp decided to risk their lives by going to the enemy camp of the Arameans. They had a good reason to do so. There was no food in the city because of famine due to the siege of the enemy. The famine was so severe in Samaria that mothers were eating their own sons!

But at the enemy camp a surprise awaited them. The Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army. Therefore they had fled. And the lepers found food and drink and great plunder in the enemy camp as it was left intact when they had fled.

And as the lepers were feasting and hiding the plunder; a sudden thought gripped them. They realized that it was a day of good news: Not only had the enemies fled but they also had left behind food and valuable articles.

No wonder it was a day of good news! So they decided to report it to the royal palace at once because they thought that keeping the good news to themselves was not right and was also worthy of punishment.

Good news is to be shared. If you have known the love of God in your life; it is not be kept to yourself but is to be shared. Go and tell your friends and relations that the enemy has fled. Go, tell them that God has given you food in the enemy’s camp.

If you delay, know that punishment will overtake you. Tell the good news at once!
