The Road to Freedom!

Introduction

A young boy slowly moves forward. He makes no sound. His eyes are fixed on that little bird sitting sweetly in the low-hanging branch of the nearby tree. Now he is very near the bird. And his hands slowly reach out. Suddenly, the movement nearby warns the bird of danger. And swiftly it takes to the air. And with gracious flapping of its little wings it speeds to safety. It is free! Yes, it is free to fly and roam the blue blue skies! And dart from tree to tree in joyous ecstasy; all because it is free!

The flight of birds across the vast expanse of the skies stirs in our hearts the intense desire to be free. We long to be free from the clutches of the hands that pull us down. Often we are not so fortunate as the bird that escaped into the freedom of the skies. We find ourselves struggling in the hands that hold us captives in its power. And sooner or later we realize that a power stronger than the hands that hold us is needed to set us free!

Or it could be something like this: A dog is tied to a long leash. The leash is held by the dog's owner. And as they walk along the garden the dog finds a cat. It tries to chase the cat away. In this effort the dog runs forward fast and is suddenly stopped short. It is the moment of realization. The dog now knows that the length of the leash and the power of the hands that hold it determines the amount of freedom it enjoys. In other words the limited freedom that it enjoys is a false kind of freedom.

Your life may contain some experiences of this kind. Such experiences might have given you some kind of pleasure and happiness. But what you discovered in the process of chasing after the fantasy must have surprised you. You may have learned that fun in a world of false freedom hurts when you dash off after your wrong desires.

At this point you realize that instead of racing on the highway of freedom you had been nose-diving into the burning fires of hell. It burns your mind. And guilt tears open fresh wounds in it. And from the depths of despair you will cry: "Oh, who shall deliver me? Oh, who shall set me free?"

So you have reached a dead end! Now it is time to turn back. And find the road that takes you to freedom; a freedom that shall satisfy and enrich your life. It is a freedom that even the birds of the air will envy. Look ahead! You are moving forward! And nearing the road to freedom!
