With Great Compassion

The hurts of life are painful.

And the agony of some life-experiences are like volcanic lava that boil and occasionally erupt under great pressure.

The suffering is real.

And words of comfort or care from your dearest may not wipe away those tears.

The question is: Can God?

The first thing to note is that, God does not forget you. You are His child. He views you with compassion more than a mother: “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Isaiah 49:15 NIV). Every thought that torments you telling you that God has forgotten you is a lie. That is why God said that even if your mother forgets you, He will not forget you. He will remember you with compassion. He is more than a mother to you!

Secondly, there are times when abandonment is real. There are times when it seems that God is silent. God also refers to these moments. He talks about them as times when you feel like a widowed person. Those are times when you feel deserted, distressed and helpless. But the Lord says that you’ll forget the shame of your youth, and: “The Lord will call you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit–a wife who married young, only to be rejected.” says your God. “For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with deep compassion I will bring you back. In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you,” says the Lord your Redeemer (Isaiah 54:6–8). So, God is calling you back to Himself now. He does so with great compassion.

Thirdly, God is promising peace to you. He might have been angry with you for a moment. When He hid his face from you, you were dismayed. You cried out to Him: “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?” (Psalm 13:1 NIV). But God is answering you today. He says that He has sworn not to be angry with you. He will not rebuke you again. Further He says: “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you (Isaiah 54:10 NIV). Yes, God is promising peace to you. He does so because He has great compassion on you.

Finally, He is going to build you up. He calls you an afflicted city. He looks at you; lashed by storms and not comforted. He says, that He will build you up with precious stones. Your foundations, your battlements, gates and walls will all be made of rich and precious stones, jewels, rubies, sapphires and turquoise. God further says: “No weapon formed against you will prevail” (Isaiah 54:17a NIV). See, God’s compassion on you is not over until He builds you up. He says: “Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Though in anger I struck you, in favor I will show you compassion” (Isaiah 60:10 NIV). Yes, you have a God who will rebuild you with great compassion.

Yes, the Lord is the One, “Who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.” Again, “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him” (Psalm 103:4,13 NIV). He is a God full of compassion. He has compassion on you more than a father, mother or husband can have!

But then, you might have run ahead of God; not listening to His counsel or advice. He asked you to wait, and to stand still. But you ran ahead thinking that your plans were best. But you were totally shattered by the experiences that awaited you as you went ahead without God: “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion” (Isaiah 30:18a NIV). So now do not fret and worry. Be patient. And wait for Him. He is going to meet you with great compassion.
