“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
A child can easily understand these words of Jesus Christ. Yet the depth of its meaning might take a lifetime for us to know.
One out of five of these sparrows was probably given away free of cost; for Jesus is recorded to have said on another occasion, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?”
If two sparrows were sold for one penny; then it is four sparrows for two pennies. If so, what about that extra sparrow; the fifth one?
Ah, the fifth sparrow was probably a give away for free! Yet that sparrow–given away free of cost and without much value–even that sparrow is not forgotten by God.
God cares. Though life sometimes is tough and there seems not a ray of light in the darkness and despair that surrounds us; there is the watchful eye of God on us. You are not forgotten. God remembers.
In this busy world when we are caught up in a mad rush each day; let us stop for a moment and think: What if God stops watching over you and me?
